My business experience:
I have had 40 years experience of building and operating my own small and medium sized businesses. I understand the problems associated with running a small or medium business with insufficient resources, and I can identify with the difficulty of trying to run a business with insufficient business experience. I am a Business Generalist (Jack of all Trades), which result from me having to learn and experience all the aspects that make up running a business.  One of my business strengths lie in my ability to seek out new business opportunities, and my financial and general business knowledge that has enabled me to turn these opportunities into viable and successful businesses. My leadership and people management skills have also empowered  me to understand and motivate my staff in order to create a winning team culture in my businesses.

My business history:
In 1995 I purchased a small business which specialised in the provision of snack and drink vending services. The company grew to become the largest independent operator of vending machines in Melbourne, before I implemented by business exit strategy, and sold it in 2006. For three years I was the President of the Vending Association (AAVA) in Victoria.

Prior to that, in 1993 I was the State Manager of Union Steel (a division of Email Metals), where over an 18 month period I gained knowledge and experience in the management within a publicly owned corporate business, and led a team of 120 employees and 8 managers.

In 1991, I was appointed as the General Manager of Directaire Ventilation Equipment, and within a year I decided to study and I spent the next 18 months as a full time student at Monash University completing my MBA.

From 1970 to 1990 I was the Managing Director of Europair, which became the largest specialist supplier of air conditioning components in South Africa, employing over 100 people. I sold the business in 1990 prior to moving to Melbourne.
