Detailed CV:

As Export Officer for Tioxide, John marketed titanium pigments to New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the Pacific Islands and South East Asia. He extended the company’s market share by concentrating on key customers who provided most of the business and by maintaining good relations with the company’s agents in each area. He also looked after the necessary export administrative requirements and operated in the Asian markets in a support role.

As Purchasing and Logistics Manager at Morphett Press, John purchased paper, inks and other raw materials while managing interstate deliveries and stock control. He decreased the unnecessarily high inventory and increased the company’s competitiveness by achieving better prices from suppliers. Morphett Press produced products such as shopping tags and letterhead paper and clients included Coles Myer.

In 1992, John started his own small business as a print broker and telecommunications and computer peripherals consultant. Its success was based on John’s strengths in developing leads, finding the right clients and minimising overheads. He built a database of more than 6000 prospects and until recently was promoting an office lighting system to those companies, which range from small businesses to large concerns such as Unilever.

Through his career, John has developed an interest in overseas trade that he maintains through membership of the Australian Institute of Export. He has also been an import and export coach with Stotts Correspondence College. John became an SBMS Mentor in 2006 and has helped many small businesses start or improve their prospects.
