Bruce has the ability to listen and help develop and implement strategic plans and improve businesses. He developed and his own successful business which he ran for more than 15 years.

Detailed CV:

With more than 30 years’ experience in steel, manufacturing and distribution industries, Bruce began his career in Newcastle as a metallurgist at Comsteel, then Australia’s major alloy and stainless steel manufacturer. He then worked in operations, marketing and sales, gaining research and operations experience in England and Canada, and product and sales management experience in Newcastle and Adelaide. Bruce then became Marketing Manager, covering the company’s Australian and international markets. 

In 1982, Bruce moved to Melbourne to manage the Australian sales offices of BHP, Australia’s major steel producer, through a period of significant cultural change. As Group Manager Marketing, he provided strategic marketing direction and support for BHP Steel and its related organisations. Bruce joined international recruitment company Boyden Melbourne in 1992. Established in the USA, Boyden has 70 offices in 40 countries and undertakes senior level executive searches, locally and internationally. During 15 years at Boyden, Bruce successfully undertook many senior searches at board, chief executive and general management levels across most industries nationally and internationally. He has been a member of several boards, including Boyden’s international board.

Bruce sold his Boyden Melbourne business a few years ago and now mentors small business owners, travels with his wife, spends time with family and friends and helps Not-for-Profit businesses. He joined SBMS in 2010 and has mentored clients in startups and ongoing businesses in a wide variety of industries.

Bruce brings to SBMS clients his extensive corporate experience in marketing, operations, strategic planning and human resource management in large, medium and small businesses. He is skilled in finance, HR, management, manufacturing, marketing, sales, governance and business planning.
